17 April 2017 - Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) had successfully organized the Engagement Session with Regulatory Coordinators (RC) on the Implementation of Good Regulatory Practice today. The aim of the session were to increase the understanding among Regulatory Coordinators; updates and provides feedback on the status of GRP Implementation at ministries and agencies and get feedback on issues and challenges faced by Ministries and Agencies in the implementation of GRP. This half-day event was attended by more than 70 participants from various ministries and government agencies.

MIDF organised the MIDF Logistics Forum & Dialog at MITI Tower on 22 September 2016. The program was launched by MITI Deputy Minister, YB Datuk Chua Tee Yong. He also delivered a speech at the program, MIDF Logistics Forum & Dialog was organised for the benefit of those in the logistics industry. The program was also attended by MIDF’s Head of Development Finance Division, Encik Azizi Hj. Mustafa. The forum and dialogue session discussed the challenges and opportunities available for the logistics industry. The forum and dialogue session also discussed the strategies to meet the targets set under the logistics masterplan.
Panellists of the MIDF Logistics Forum and Dialog were made up of representatives from The Malaysia Institute of Transport (MITRANS), Ministry of Transport and Federation of Malaysian Freight Forwarders.
MIDF telah menganjurkan forum serta sesi dialog “MIDF Logistics Forum & Dialog” di Menara MITI pada 22 September 2016. Program tersebut telah dirasmikan oleh Timbalan Menteri MITI, YB Datuk Chua Tee Yong. Beliau turut menyampaikan ucapan di program tersebut. MIDF Logistics Forum & Dialog dianjurkan bagi manfaat mereka yang berada dalam industri logistik. Program tersebut turut dihadiri oleh Ketua Bahagian Kewangan Pembangunan MIDF, Encik Azizi Hj. Mustafa. Sesi forum seta dialog tersebut telah membincangkan cabaran serta peluang yang terdapat bagi industri logistik. Turut dibincangkan adalah strategi untuk mencapai sasaran di bawah pelan induk logistik.

MITI Perak recently organised the 'Hungary-Perak Business Seminar' on 29 September 2016 in Ipoh. The seminar was officiated by YB Dato' Mohamad Zahir bin Abdul Khalid, Perak State Committee Chairman for Industry, Investment and Corridor Development and attended by H.E. Mr. Attila Kali, Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary and Dr Emilia Fabian, Head of the Office of Economic Affairs, Embassy of Hungary in Malaysia. More than 100 participants comprising head of agencies, presidents of business associations and captain of industries in Perak attended the seminar.
This was the first outreach programme initiated by the Hungarian Embassy outside Kuala Lumpur after it was officially re-opened in May 2015, with the primary focus of facilitating the enhancement of economic relations between Malaysia and Hungary.

YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Minister of International Trade & Industry II officiated the opening of GE Malaysia’s new headquarters and GE Regional Office at Nu Sentral Tower 2 Kuala Lumpur today, together with Mr John G. Rice, Vice Chairman of GE/CEO GE Global Growth. Almost all of GE’s main businesses including (GE Power, GE Oil & Gas, GE Energy Connections, GE Healthcare & GE Global Growth Organization) and GE’s remote monitoring & diagnostic centre for GE O&G and GE Power will be based at this new office. This is GE’s largest facility in Malaysia in terms of manpower with ~800 GE employees.
YB Dato’ Seri Ong congratulated GE for the 40 years of strong presence in Malaysia. YB Menteri II Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (MITI), YB Dato' Seri Ong Ka Chuan telah menerima kunjungan hormat daripada TYT Puan Niale Kaba, Menteri Perancangan dan Pembangunan Côte d'Ivoire, diiringi oleh pegawai-pegawai dari Kementerian Perancangan dan Pembangunan, Pejabat Presiden Republik, Program Pelaburan Awam, Côte d'Ivoire, serta pegawai-pegawai Perwakilan Tetap United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) di Malaysia dan Côte d'Ivoire pada 26 September 2016 di Menara MITI, Kuala Lumpur. Kunjungan hormat tersebut merupakan sebahagian daripada program lawatan sambil belajar mereka ke Malaysia untuk menimba pengalaman Malaysia dalam memacu transformasi kerajaan dan ekonomi negara, serta sebagai persediaan untuk menganjurkan International Conference on the Emergence of Africa Kedua pada tahun 2017.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry at the ‘Turun Padang’ programme to SAM Precision Engineering Sdn. Bhd in Bayan Lepas, Penang. In addition to the plant tour programme, YB Minister was briefed on the company’s new expansion project in producing ‘thrust reverser machined parts’ which are key components in aerospace manufacturing activities. The new proposed investments valued at RM139.6 million, is further proof that companies in the aerospace industry are expanding their capabilities in Malaysia and demonstrates their confidence in Malaysia’s capabilities and the Government's policies.
RETRENCHED WORKERS ARE BEING REHIRED AS A RESULT OF BUSINESS EXPANSION AND NEW INVESTMENTS
- On 27 July 2016, I had issued a statement outlining the state of Malaysia’s manufacturing sector. I touched on the challenges posed by the closure and restructuring of business operations, and stressed the Government’s success in attracting many other companies to set up their manufacturing facilities in Malaysia.
- The economic climate is challenging. A number of firms are restructuring their business plans and shifting their investments from one country to another to take advantage of abundant and cheaper labour costs.
- Malaysia is not spared from this new reality. In the period of January 2015 – August 2016, data from the Labour Department shows that a total of 10,907 workers at 51 companies in the manufacturing sector have been retrenched as a result of closure or restructuring exercises. YBM MITI, YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed chaired a Dialogue session with council members from the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) on 22 September 2016. Senior representatives from related Government ministries and agencies namely the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resource, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism, Ministry of Transport, Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Malaysia Competition Commission, Social Security Organisation and Human Resources Development Fund also attended the Dialogue.
