In conjunction with his working visit to Sabah from 1 – 2 February 2017, YB Datuk Ahmad Maslan, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) held a dialogue session with local SMEs. The programme was held in Kota Belud and ointly organised by MITI and SME Corp Malaysia.
The objective of the session was to brief SME players on:
- the status of SME development particularly in Sabah;
- the SME Act which is due to be enacted this year; and
- assistance programmes offered by Federal Agencies under MITI.
The session also provided a platform for SMEs in Sabah to engage with MITI, its agencies as well as other agencies tasked with developing SMEs.
There are currently 645,136 SMEs in Malaysia, representing 97.3% of total business entities in the country. Of this, 6.3% are from Sabah. Most of the SMEs in Sabah are Microenterprises.

Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) conducted a Halal Malaysia dialogue session with Johor state government and Halal industry players on 8th December 2016 at Permata Ballroom, The Puteri Pacific Hotel, Johor Bahru.
The welcoming speech was delivered by YB Datuk Haji Ahmad Haji Maslan, MITI (Industry) Deputy Minister. The objectives of the dialogue session is to review recent developments and future plans of Halal industry and identify the challenges faced by local Halal industry particularly in Johor in order to enhance and accelerate the growth of Halal industry development.

Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato 'Sri Mustapa Mohamed conducted a Dialogue Session on October 9, 2016 to obtain views and feedback on the challenges faced by SMEs in Kelantan. In addition to the Dialogue Session, YBhg. Datuk (Dr) Hafsah Hashim, Chief Executive Officer of SME Corp. Malaysia during the briefing session shared the assistance provided by the Government through SME Corp. Malaysia in ensuring SMEs in Kelantan are involved in the national development process. The briefing and dialogue session conducted by SME Corp. Malaysia (an agency under MITI) was attended by more than 1200 participants namely SMEs in Kelantan, industry associations, chambers of commerce, universities and representatives from various ministries and agencies.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry at the Dialogue Session with Sarawak Electronics and Supporting Industries Companies Association (SECA). The session was moderated by YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister for Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment (MEITI), Sarawak and attended by SECA members including X-Fab Sarawak Sdn. Bhd, HGST Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, Comtec Solar (M) Sdn. Bhd, Toko Electronic Sdn. Bhd, Taiyo Yuden Sdn. Bhd and SEM (M) Sdn. Bhd. The session is part of YB Menteri’s continuous engagements with the industry players and a platform to exchange feedback and views on pertinent issues and suggestions for Government’s interventions. Electricity supply and environmental related issues were among key issues discussed during this session.
