26 May 2017 - This year marks the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN carrying the theme of “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World.” Since its establishment, ASEAN has evolved into one of the world’s most dynamic regions with accelerated economic performance in recent years.To commemorate the golden celebration of ASEAN@50 this year, MITI as Malaysia’s national coordinator for the economic pillar, will also be organising various programmes and activities.
Today’s seminar on ASEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY (AEC) among many, serves as another platform for MITI to showcase and provide a solid testimonial to Malaysians at large, the benefits as well as opportunities drawn from the ASEAN regional integration.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry and YB Dato’ Chua Tee Yong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry participated in the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2017 (WEF on ASEAN 2017) held on 10th to 12th May 2017 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Also present at the Forum were Tan Sri Anthony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive of Air Asia, Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, Managing Director, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Axiata Group and Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, Chairman of CIMB Group Holdings.

Mesyuarat Majlis Perundingan Program Pembangunan Vendor (MPPPV) telah diadakan pada 20 April 2017. Mesyuarat telah dipengerusikan oleh Y.B Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamad, Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (MITI) dan dihadiri oleh wakil-wakil dari pelbagai agensi Kerajaan dan syarikat-syarikat anchor.
Mesyuarat MPPPV kali ini juga menyaksikan penyertaan syarikat Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn. Bhd sebagai syarikat anchor mulai tahun 2016. Sehingga April 2017, dua (2) syarikat anchor baharu iaitu Sime Darby Property Sdn. Bhd, dan Sime Darby Plantation Sdn. Bhd. telah menyertai PPV. Majlis penyerahan Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) di antara MITI dengan ketiga-tiga syarikat anchor tersebut turut diadakan pada hari ini.

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry through the National Aerospace Industry Coordinating Office (NAICO) made its biggest appearance ever in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2017 (LIMA ‘17). This is part of MITI’s efforts in promoting the development of Malaysian aerospace and maritime industry.

The event started with the Opening Ceremony of LIMA’17 at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) Tarmac officiated by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Razak, Prime Minister. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) organised the Anugerah Kecemerlangan Industri (AKI) 2016 or the Industry Excellence Award to recognize outstanding Malaysian companies which have achieved a certain level of excellence in the manufacturing and services sector. AKI 2016 marks the 25th Anniversary of our Industry Excellence journey. The Silver Jubilee Anniversary was held on 17 March 2017 at the MITI Tower.
The AKI was first introduced in 1991 and now uses the Business Excellence Framework (BEF) as the benchmark criteria in the evaluation process. The awards are broadly categorised under two main categories, manufacturing and services. Starting 2016, a new category which is Open Category for Multinational Companies was introduced. All winners of the categories will be automatically qualified to compete for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award. This award is the AKI’s premier award and given in recognition of overall industry excellence.
THE NATIONAL eCOMMERCE COUNCIL (NeCC) MEETING NO. 1/2017, 15 MARCH 2017, MITI TOWER
YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, MITI Minister today chaired the first National eCommerce Council (NeCC) meeting this year. Since its establishment one year ago in 2016, the Council has worked hard towards enhancing the development and competitiveness of the eCommerce ecosystem. The Council discussed in detail the implementation of the National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap (NeSR) for 2017 and 2018 including the Key Performance Indicators for each of the six thrust areas under the Roadmap.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry officiated the launch of ZALORA’s Regional eFulfilment Centre in Shah Alam on 3 March 2017. ZALORA is the largest and fastest growing fashion eCommerce site in Southeast Asia which offers an extensive collection of over 500 international and local brands and designer items, allowing its customers to shop from thousands of products in various categories online. ZALORA’s Regional eFulfilment Hub will be Southeast Asia’s biggest warehouse with a space of 470,000 sq ft. This would allow ZALORA to scale its operations across the ASEAN markets as well as facilitate the movement of its collection across Asia. YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry made an announcement on Malaysia’s Investment Performance for the year 2016 on 2 March 2017 at MIDA HQ in KL Sentral. The event was well attended by more than 200 delegates comprising officials from embassies, ministries and agencies as well as the business community.
Malaysia has become more selective in its investment agenda, preferring quality projects in targeted ecosystems that will have significant knock-on effects throughout the domestic economy. Last year, the country attracted RM207.9 billion in total approved investments that will fund 4,972 projects in the manufacturing, services and primary sectors. These are expected to create 153,060 job opportunities for the country.

28 Feb 2018 - YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry together with HE Dr. Ghassan Ahmed Al-Sulaiman, Governor of Small and Medium Enterprise Authority of Saudi Arabia, officiated the Malaysia-Saudi Arabia Business Forum organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Saudi Arabia through its Commercial Office in Kuala Lumpur. The event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
The objectives of the Business Forum were to:
• Promote and highlight business and investment opportunities in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia; and
• Provide a platform to discuss and exchange views on issues related to trade and investment and ways to enhance bilateral economic relations.
