MITI together with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) jointly organised the Workshop to outline the detailed Action Plans for the Implementation of the National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap (NeSR) from 16 to 17 January 2017 at Menara MITI.
The Roadmap which was officially launched by YAB Prime Minister on 13 October 2016 has set a target to double eCommerce annual growth rate from 10.8% in 2016 to 20.8% in 2020, and reach GDP contribution of RM211 billion by 2020. It highlights planned interventions in six (6) thrust areas namely accelerate seller (SMEs) adoption of eCommerce; increase adoption of eProcurement by businesses; lift non-tariff barriers; realign existing economic incentives; make strategic investments in selected eCommerce players; and promote national brand to boost cross-border eCommerce.
The Workshop was well attended by more than 140 representatives, including the nine (9) Programme Leads responsible in driving the national eCommerce agenda under the NeSR, namely MITI, SME Corp., Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
In addition, leading industry players along the eCommerce value chain also took an active part in the discussion including Pos Malaysia, Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB), DHL, FedEx, Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC), Yamato, Lazada, Book Café, The National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM), Nationwide, Mas Kargo, Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), City Link, Mudah.my, Persatuan Usahawan Internet Malaysia (PUIM) and the as Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA).
