The official launch of the National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap by YAB Prime Minister recently took place on 13 October 2016 at the sidelines of the 28th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council Meeting (ICM) in Putrajaya.
Present at the event were MITI Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed as Chair of the National eCommerce Council (NeCC) and other Cabinet Ministers as well as leading eCommerce stakeholders involved in the preparations of the Strategic Roadmap including Pos Malaysia, GDeX, Google, Facebook, Lazada, Lelong, 11street, ManagePay and PIKOM.
The Roadmap marks another milestone in the Government’s efforts towards driving the national eCommerce agenda. The launch of this Roadmap highlights Malaysia’s planned interventions in six (6) thrust areas namely accelerating seller adoption of eCommerce; ?promoting national brands to boost cross-border eCommerce; making strategic investments in selected eCommerce players; improvising economic incentives (fiscal, grants and subsidies); lifting non-tariff barriers; and increasing the adoption of eProcurement by businesses.
Under the Roadmap, eleven (11) programmes will be driven by eight (8) programme leads including MITI, MOF, KPDNKK, BNM, MCMC, MIDA, MATRADE and SME Corp.
The NeCC has been designated as the platform to guide the governance and implementation of the Roadmap. MITI together with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) will conduct series of engagements with the relevant programme leads and stakeholders in the next few months in order to implement the Roadmap.
