STUDY VISIT BY MINISTERIAL DELEGATION FROM CÔTE D'IVOIRE (IVORY COAST) AND THE UNDP 26 SEPTEMBER 2016

YB Minister II of Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan on 26 September 2016 received a courtesy call from H.E. Mrs. Niale Kaba, Minister of Planning and Development of Côte d’Ivoire, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Planning and Development, Presidency of the Republic, Public Investments Programme of Côte d’Ivoire, as well as officials from the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Malaysia and Côte d’Ivoire at Menara MITI, Kuala Lumpur. The courtesy call is part of their study visit programme to Malaysia to learn Malaysia’s experiences in driving the government and nation’s economic transformation, as well as their preparation for the Second International Conference on the Emergence of Africa in 2017.
YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan shared Malaysia’s involvement in economic cooperation such as ASEAN and APEC, liberalisation initiatives under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with country partners, such as Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement and Malaysia-Turkey FTA, as well as Malaysia’s commitments under the World Trade Organisation that will contribute to Malaysia’s rapid economic growth and development. H.E. Mrs. Niale Kaba expressed hope for a consequential cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Malaysia, given the background similarities of both countries, in particular on Malaysia’s experiences in shifting from an agricultural-based nation to an industry-manufacturing based through its transformation programmes.
An information-sharing session with senior officials from MITI and agencies namely, MIDA, MATRADE, SMECorp and MPC was also held. The delegation was briefed on Malaysia’s initiatives in enhancing its trade and investment, developing the SMEs/SMIs, as well as pursuing sustainable development.
